Roseann “Roe” E. Madonia, 83, of Bloomington, IL, formerly of Springfield, IL, passed away peacefully with family by her side at 10:42 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Luther Oaks in Bloomington.
Roe was born September 4, 1940, in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Harold G. and Marie A. Sansone Brown. She married Vincent Anthony Madonia on April 23, 1960, at St. Joseph Church in Springfield; he preceded her in death on September 14, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Roe graduated from Ursuline Academy and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois-Springfield. She was a licensed realtor and worked for the Illinois Secretary of State for 20 years. Roe was an active member of Christ the King Parish, volunteering for their funeral luncheon program and was part of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also an administrator of the Secretary of State 55 Alive program, a board member of Senior Citizen Centers of Central Illinois, and a precinct committee member.
Roe was a multifaceted woman with many passions and interests. She had impeccable taste and strong opinions. She was an art enthusiast, well versed in fashion, film, and design. Roe was also an incredible cook and host for family and friends throughout the years. Some of her fondest memories (and best stories) came from traveling the world with her husband, and she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. Roe was smart and witty, thoughtful and generous. She will be greatly missed.
Roe is survived by her children, Frances (Gregg) Zimmerman of Bloomington, Joseph J. (Karen) Madonia of Naperville, Annamarie (Drake) Israel, and Matthew (Teresa) Madonia, both of Springfield; thirteen grandchildren, Joseph (Taylor) Zimmerman, Kate (Shawn) Finlen, Nicholas (Jessica) Zimmerman, Emily (Bradley) Hallstein, Sarah (Bret) Gornik, Alison (Nathan) Laskowski, Hannah Madonia, David (April) Israel, Andrew (Nicole) Israel, Matthew (Rachael) Israel, Vincent (Allison) Israel, Vincent Madonia, and Sophia Roseann Madonia; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Roger, Ernest, and Margot Zimmerman, Miles, Ronan, and Frances Finlen, Noah, Owen, Theo, and Luca Zimmerman, Benjamin and Samuel Hallstein, Amelia and Lillian Gornik, Mabel Laskowski, Drake and Isabella Israel, Chloe, Hudson, Ashton, and Bennett Israel, Henry Israel, and Madelyn Israel; siblings, Kathleen (Louis, deceased) Gaffney, Deborah Schemerhorn, Gae Velten, and Andrew (Sandra) Brown; siblings-in-law, Nina Rothe, Lucia Midiri, Theresa Nicastro, Josephine Romang, and Margaret Paserri; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Christ the King, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, IL. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Christopher House, celebrant.
Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
