Richard C. Pennington, 79, of Carbondale, formerly of Springfield and Kenilworth, went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 13, 2014. Mr. Pennington was born Richard Caldwell Lockyer on August 22, 1935 to Constance Caldwell Lockyer and John Milton Lockyer in Beverly Hills, California. His name was later changed to Richard Caldwell Pennington when his mother married Perry Pennington in 1940. Mr. Pennington was a graduate of New Trier High School, attended Colorado College and Northwestern University, as well as serving in the US Navy. He was self-employed in the utilities industry for 25 years. He enjoyed golf and sports of all kinds, as well as a true love of dogs. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Connie; two daughters, Laura Lee Pennington (John) Foster of Murfreesboro, TN and Cynthia Rae Pennington Carrier of Springfield, IL; one son, Richard Caldwell (Lori) Pennington Jr. of Sherman, IL; seven grandchildren, Jessica Foster of Murfreesboro, TN, Matthew (Candy) Foster of Nashville, TN, Melissa (Chris) Cleer of Springfield, IL, Elizabeth (Derek) Simon of Springfield, IL, Brandi Carrier of Springfield, IL, and Bethanie and Dustin Pennington of Sherman, IL; four great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Chloe Simon of Springfield and Olivia and Xavier Cleer of Springfield; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Robert and Roberta Grell of Spartanburg, SC; as well as many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joanne P. Talbot; brother, John Milton Lockyer Pennington; and infant grandson, Seth Caldwell Pennington.
