She was born in Quincy, IL February 27, 1929 the daughter of Elmer and Clara (Miller) Bruenger. She married David C. Butcher Sr. June 10, 1950 and he preceded her in death March 28, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard, and three sisters: Dolores Bruenger, Ruth Lange and Arline Wemhoener.
Norma was a homemaker. She and her husband enjoyed Bridge and were members of several Bridge Clubs from Quincy to Champaign to Springfield. She loved to cook and enjoyed spending time with her family. Norma was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church LCMS where she served on the Alter Guild for several years. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, David C. (wife Marlene) Butcher Jr., her daughter, Kathy (husband Keith) Haynes both of Chatham, five grandchildren: Christopher (companion Kamila Klyz) Haynes, Kyle Haynes, Jeffrey (wife Molly) Butcher, Ryan Butcher and Carrie (husband Austin) Carey, two great grandchildren; Caleb and Kyleigh Haynes, her brother, Russell Bruenger of Florissant, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Service: The family of Norma J. Butcher will receive friends at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd., Springfield, IL on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 9:30 am until time of services there at 10:30 am. Rev. Joshua T. Traxel and Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke will officiate. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery, near Riverton.
