She was born in Springfield, September 5, 1949 the daughter of James M. and Rose Eileen (Liston) Sexton. Liz was preceded in death by her brother James Michael Sexton, and her sister Kathleen Ann Jones.
Liz served as a registered nurse at Memorial Medical Center and Doctor’s Hospital, where she was charged with infection control and later retired from the State of Illinois Department of Corrections. She worked hard, finishing her Bachelor of Nursing while working full time and raising her family. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, Sudoku and word games. She enjoyed “old black and white” movies. Her greatest joy was found in her children and grandchildren. She loved being a grandma and teaching her grandchildren songs with hand motions, games and hand puppetry.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Patterson (companion Gregory Urrea) of Springfield, her son, Edward D. “Pat” Patterson of St. Petersburg, FL, four grandchildren: James, Cassandra, Samantha and Maxwell, her sister, Patricia C. (Larry) Sweeney of Bloomington, IL, two brothers: William J. “Jeff” (Debbie) Sexton of Moore, SC, and Gregory Allen (Cheryl) Sexton of Waynesville, IL, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a dear friend and companion, Harry Bauer of Springfield.
Cremation rites will be accorded by the Bisch and Son Crematory.
The family will greet family and friends at a memorial visitation at Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL Friday, May 28, 2021 from 4:00 pm until the time of a memorial service at 6:00 pm. Pastor Rick Wenneborg will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to Brother James Court 2508 County Road 4 ½ E. Springfield, IL 62707 in honor of her grandson Max.
