Martin John Sommerfeld Sr., 78, of Springfield, passed away on July 20, 2022 at his residence. He was born on January 28, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio to Rev. Martin H. Sommerfeld and Arline Wollerman Sommerfeld.
Mr. Sommerfeld is survived by two children: Martin (Laura) Sommerfeld Jr., of Virden, and Rachel Sommerfeld of Ft. Collins, CO., one sister Marian Alsbury of St. Paul, MN., and two brothers: Donald (Gayle) Sommerfeld of Wheaton, IL., and Richard Sommerfeld of Springfield.
Martin worked as a systems analyst for the State of Illinois Department of Human Services. His hobbies included: Harley Davidson Motorcycles, playing the drums, fishing, gardening, grilling out, cooking and baking cookies for his neighbors and feeding and watching hummingbirds.
Cremation rites were accorded and services are entrusted to Bisch and Son Funeral Home.
