Karen M. (Krofchick) McKinney-Slater

Karen was born on June 9, 1969, in Springfield, the daughter of Richard Krofchick, Sr. and Charlene Eller Krofchick. She married Frederick McKinney.

Karen was very passionate about her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed watching her son Bennie play basketball, crocheting, and using her woodworking skills, especially to build toy boxes and picnic tables. Karen loved her dogs, Louie, Lilly, Stormy, and Chanel, and her cats, Bob, Sneakers, and Bubba.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandmother, Agnes Krofchick; and uncle, Eddie.

She is survived by her husband, Frederick McKinney of Springfield; three children, Christian (Madisen Morhet), Kassia, and Benjamin “Bennie” Slater, all of Springfield; three grandchildren, Madelynn, Honest, and Amir; her mother, Charlene Krofchick of Springfield; father of her children, Butch Slater; two siblings, Rick Krofchick of Springfield and Sharon (Randy) Witten of Heyworth, IL; and five nephews, Brandon, Travis, and Jarrod Krofchick, and Justin and Jeremy Witten.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home. A police walk-through will be held at 3:45 p.m.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation.
