John was born on December 9, 1933, the son of Edward Allen Davis and Merle (nee Kratzer) Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward and Charles and sister Merle Casolari all of Springfield.
John is survived by his partner Cressie Mitchell of Springfield; son John A Davis Jr (Donna) of Sherman, daughters Cindy Davis-Blair (Mark) and Jill Davis of Springfield, Seven Grandchildren, Four Great Grandchildren, Several nieces and his beloved poodle Honey.
John was an Army Veteran serving at White Sands Missile Base in New Mexico and at Ford Hood in Texas from 1956 to 1958 and was in the Army Reserves for 4 additional years. After the service, John joined his father and brothers in the family business, “Edward A Davis Painting” founded in 1925. John and his brother Charles co- founded Davis Painting and he became sole owner in 1988. John was a member of the Elks Lodge #158 of Springfield, Moose Lodge #1308 of Venice Fl. John enjoyed spending his winters at his home in Venice Fl. He was an avid animal lover and loved to feed squirrels, ducks and any animal that came along.
Private Graveside services on Monday August 26th in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Inter Veteran’s Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
