Helen G. Suggs

Helen G. Suggs, 93 of Springfield, passed away on her birthday Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield.

She was born in Sparta, IL June 5, 1920 the daughter of George and Minnie Washington Bigsby. Helen married Thurston Suggs in 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1946. She was also preceded in death by her son, Earl Sr., a great grandson, William Earl Suggs, a brother and a sister.

Helen worked in the claims department of Horace Mann Insurance Co for many years retiring in 1985. She then worked at the Feed Store Restaurant in downtown Springfield. She was a member since 1943 of the Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law; Brenda Suggs, her grandson, Earl (wife Lisa) Suggs Jr., her granddaughter, Janice (husband Franklin) Stemmons all of Springfield, 4 great grandchildren and several cousins including Betty Washington of Sparta, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Monday June 10, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church 1601 E. Laurel, Springfield, IL with Rev. Samuel Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 10 am Monday.
