Harvin A. Cook, 83, of Springfield, passed away on Friday July 31, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on September 6, 1931 in East St. Louis, IL., to Glen Cook and Alice Clark. He married Leontine Morin in Clinton, IL., on December 21, 1951 and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2015.
Mr. Cook is survived by his children: Bradley (Partner David) Cook of San Diego, CA., Andrea (William) Pryor of Springfield, Scott (Tracey) Cook of Decatur and Janet Cook of Springfield, grandchildren: Blake and Natalie Pryor both of Springfield, Jennifer (Connor) Cook-Weikle of Chattanooga, TN., and Brook Patton of Decatur, and one great-grandson Wyatt Weikle.
Harvin was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a Master’s Degree in Education and he taught science, PE, drivers education and coached basketball at Wapella High School winning the Corn Belt Conference Championship. He retired from the State of Illinois Office of Education Text Book Program after twenty five years of service. Harvin was the Dewitt County Board Chairman and a 32 Degree Mason. He was a St. Louis Cardinal and Fighting Illini fan who enjoyed cooking and genealogy. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents at The Seasons at Pine Creek
