Gregory James Kelso, age 67, passed away in Springfield, Illinois at home on November 23, 2013. Greg was born March 31, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to William H. Kelso and Rita Mae Dempsey Kelso. Both parents preceded Greg in death. Greg graduated from Griffin High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1966 1969 and attended Southern Illinois University. Greg enjoyed playing the guitar and was a true Beatles fan beginning with the Ed Sullivan Show. Greg is survived by one living uncle, Alec Kelso; four sisters, Kitty, Kim (husband, Pat Leonard), Kris, and Kelly; half-brothers, Pat and Bill; four living, extended-family siblings, Jim, Greg, Kelvin, and Stephanie; and nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Memorial contributions in Greg's behalf may be made to a local area charity of your choice. Greg met many special people during his life who extended him continued support, generosity, and kindness. To each of you, Greg remains eternally grateful.
