Jerry was born April 23, 1945, in Quincy, IL, the son of Ralph Kooken and Frances Shaw (Shannon). He married Mary Jane “Janie” Fee on April 10, 1965, in Quincy, IL; she preceded him in death on October 16. 2022.
Jerry graduated from Quincy High School in 1963 and was employed as a custodian for District 186 until his retirement. He also worked part-time as a ranger at a golf course, worked for Niemann National Foods, and delivered Kelly potato chips. Jerry was a long-term member of Jerome United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, and was a member of The Gardner Golden Club where he played Bingo and Dominoes every Monday. He enjoyed playing poker at Pasfield Golf Course. He also loved to travel, especially to Branson and going on cruises with his wife. Jerry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Kooken; and brother, Denny Kooken.
Jerry is survived by his son, John J. (Tara) Kooken of Springfield; grandchildren, Jeffrey M. Kooken of Denver, CO and Kaylee E. Kooken of Springfield; brother, Ron (Ann) Kooken of Quincy; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation.
Private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
