Genevieve Ann Hughes, 57, of Springfield, died at 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was born on June 2, 1949 in Springfield, the daughter of John and Genevieve Marie Buckles Hughes, Jr. Genevieve graduated in 1967 from Sacred Heart Academy and then attended Illinois State University where she graduated with her Bachelors Degree in Education. She then went on to obtain her Masters Degree in Education from Sangamon State University (now known as the University of Illinois at Springfield). She taught for Springfield School District 186 as a Special Education teacher until her retirement in 2003. She also taught at Lincoln State School in Lincoln, Illinois and Four Corners Indian Reservation in Arizona. Genevieve enjoyed playing bingo, watching various cooking channels and the television show Perry Mason. She was preceded in death by her father: John Hughes, Sr. in 1975. She is survived by her mother: Genevieve Marie Hughes of Springfield; one sister: Kathleen Hughes of Springfield; two aunts and many cousins. Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence Avenue, Springfield. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with Rev. Michael Haag celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family of Genevieve Ann Hughes is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
