She was born October 17, 1917 in Springfield to Harrison and Lena Bomke Noble. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1936 and worked a number of years at Myers Brothers Department Store. She later worked at Consumer Credit Union for 18 years until she retired.
She married Harold G. Riley June 21, 1941. They raised two children and were well-respected members of the community and particularly their North Second Street neighborhood.
Dorothy was for years a member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, and more recently Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield. She was active for many years in various organizations, including the Springfield High School Class of ’36 Ladies Lunch Brunch, Beta Sigma Phi, Enos School PTA, Elliott Avenue Ladies Aid, Fidelis Mission Circle, and the Forget Me Not Bunko Club.
Dorothy will be remembered for her sweet disposition, her care and concern for others, and her commitment to family and friends. She lived to see her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren come into the world and was fortunate to share happy moments with all of them. Her life was blessed, and was for her family a blessing.
Her parents, her husband Harold, her daughter-in-law Patricia K. Riley, and two nephews preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Carol A. Morris (Isaac “Marty”), Springfield; Robert M. Riley, Buffalo Grove, IL.; 6 grandchildren; Kristen Irving (Todd), Springfield; Jennifer Kramer, Springfield; Isaac M. Morris, Jr. (Mayuko), Dallas, TX; Michael H. Riley (Amanda) and Meghan A. Riley, Buffalo Grove, IL; and Ashley Streck (Jim), Pleasant Plains, IL. She has 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service officiated by Rev. Thomas B. Christell Jr. of Historic Grace Lutheran Church, will be on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 12 noon, at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E Allen St Springfield, IL 62703. The family will receive guests from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
