Donald Eugene Young

He was born on Jan. 16, 1932 in Rochester, IL, the son of the late Carl J. and Mary Frances (Daley) Young. He married Martha Strode on July 4, 1952 at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield and she survives.

Mr. Young served in the U. S. Air Force. He retired from the Springfield Police Department as Deputy Chief in 1981 after 25 years of service. He then worked in court security for the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office. He later worked for and retired from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue. He was a member of PBPA Illinois Police Association, Chatham Central Lodge #523 AF & AM, Springfield Consistory, and Ansar Shrine.

Besides his wife Martha, he is survived by 4 children, Nancy (husband Lee) Blasko of Donnellson, IL, Timothy (wife Simone) Young of Rochester, IL, Patty Greene of Springfield, and Steven Young of Donnellson, IL; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jerome (wife Dorothy) Daley of Mechanicsburg, IL, and Dave (wife Ruth) Young of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marcella Turner and Dorothy Nance, and 2 brothers, Carl and Walter Young.

Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 from 3 pm until 6 pm, with Chatham Central Lodge #523 AF & AM conducting Masonic Services at 6 pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at 10:30 am at the funeral home with Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Military honors will be provided by the Interveterans’ Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
