He was born November 15, 1946, in Sikeston, MO, the son of Carl Knight. Dennis married Barbara Griffith in Fairfield, IL, on November 24, 1966. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2012.
Dennis grew up in Fairfield, IL and attended Fairfield High School, where he graduated in 1964. After his marriage to Barbara in 1966 Dennis and Barbara moved to Springfield after he accepted a job offer with the State of Illinois working in the IT Department with the Illinois Department of Transportation. After Barbara’s death Dennis moved back to Fairfield, IL, where he enjoyed retirement.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, training his bird dogs, and being outdoors before the sunrise until the sunset when the weather permitted.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and son, Timothy “Tim” C. Knight.
Dennis is survived by his daughter-in-law, Patty Knight of Springfield; and two grandchildren, Mitchell Knight of St. Louis, and Trentin Carl Knight of Springfield.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 South Sixth Street, Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Butler Funeral Home, 900 South Sixth Street, Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
