Charles Edwin "Scotty/Charlie" Scott, 82, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Springfield, IL died at 3:00 p.m. on April 27, 2015. Charlie was born January 23, 1933 in Benton Harbor, MI, the son of Emmitt and Grace (Gagen) Scott. Charlie went into the Army in 1950 and retired in 1971. He worked at Fiat Allis for a number of years. Upon their closing, he worked for and retired from the State of Illinois. He was very active in the Auxiliary Police, VFW 755 and Lions Club, while here in Springfield. Once in Florida, he became a member of VFW 4364 and the Masons of Danville and Shriners. He volunteered at the VA Hospital in St. Petersburg, and was very active in the color guard. But, no matter what he was doing, he always had time for his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Art; and two sisters, Freida and Barbara. He is survived by one daughter, Coleen (husband, Ron) Orme of Loami; one son, Roy Scott of Springfield; four grandchildren, Roy-David, Chelsea, Alexandra, and Charlee; and one sister, Roberta. Cremation was accorded in Florida. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Burial: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Road, Springfield. Military honors will be provided by the Department of Defense and Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
