She was born on February 13, 1927 in Springfield, the daughter of the late James C. and Blanche Rose (Ingram) Reed. She married John H. “Jack” Hulsen on January 24, 1945 in Springfield and he preceded her in death on January 25, 1991.
Bettie had worked in the MVR Department at Equifax in Springfield for many years. She was a former member of Knox Presbyterian Church and, prior to that, was a member at Fifh Presbyterian Church until it closed. She had also been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Bettie is survived by her 3 children, Ruth Ann (Gary) Stanley of Glenarm, IL, Jack H. (Sarah) Hulsen II of Chatham, IL, and Barbara L. (Robert) Flemming of Springfield; 7 grandchildren, Steven Stanley of Springfield, Jeffrey (Jeve) Stanley of Saipan/Philippines, Robert L. (Nicole) Flemming II of Springfield, Brian J. (Bridgette) Flemming of Springfield, Tracy L. (Todd) Young of Pawnee, IL, Jennifer A. (Eric) Surges of Chatham, IL, and John H. (Molly) Hulsen III MD of Clayton, MO; and 9 great-grandchildren, Caleb (Abby) Flemming, Riley Flemming, Lauryn Flemming, Henry Flemming, Ellie Surges, Emily Surges, Benjamin Hulsen, Sophia Stanley, and Matthew Stanley.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Raymond L. Reed and a brother in infancy.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Paula Carmichael. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield.
