Rebecca Hillshafer

Hillshafer, Rebecca P., age 84, of Springboro passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Ohio Living Mount Pleasant Senior Community in Monroe. She was born in Xenia, Ohio on September 7, 1939, the daughter of the late Wilber B. and Edith (Fudge) Pancake. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jo Burns, and previous husband, William O. Hillshafer.

Rebecca is survived by her three children: Brian (Kristin) Hillshafer, of West Bend, Wisconsin; Kathryn (Chris) Hansen of Poolesville, Maryland; and Matthew (Morgan) Hillshafer, of Columbus. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Samantha Hillshafer, Jacob Hillshafer, and Caleb Hillshafer; Julia Rich and Alexander Rich; and Olivia Puckett.

After graduating from Ohio Northen University in 1961, Rebecca’s teaching career spanned many years in several states, including Ohio, Virginia, and Maryland, and she treasured her students and found an outlet for her caring and creativity in the classroom. She also spent interim years at home actively and lovingly caring for her children until returning to the classroom in their later years. She spent her final 19 years both as a substitute and full-time 4th grade teacher at Waynesville Elementary School in Waynesville, Ohio, receiving the Warren County Project Excellence teacher’s award in 2002 before finally retiring in May 2011.

She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Middletown as well as of the Clearcreek Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, art, family history, her beloved dogs, and her children and grandchildren.

A visitation for Rebecca will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 North Main Street, Springboro, Ohio 45066. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 40 North Main Street, Springboro, Ohio 45066. An interment will occur Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Greenlawn Cemetery, South Charleston, Ohio 45368.
