Robert “Bob” Goodman of Spring Valley, passed away on January 12, 2024 (two months shy of his 100th birthday) after a brief illness. Born March 11, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, he attended Boys High School graduating in 1940. He attended Brooklyn College and then University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. His education was interrupted when he was drafted into the Army Air Corp where he served until 1946. He completed his bachelor’s degree in 1947.
He is predeceased by his beautiful wife Cecile “Sis”, of almost 60 years, whom he married in
1951 and settled down in Spring Valley. After a variety of jobs, he started his career in 1958 selling insurance for New York Life and retired in 1989. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and always had a positive outlook in life. He enjoyed a good joke and said that “ever since I was a little boy, all I wanted to do was to make people laugh.” He and Sis loved traveling and collecting antiques. Four years ago, he fulfilled his last bucket list item by taking a trip to Cuba at age 95. He enjoyed attending his trivia group and learning new facts in history. He was always hopeful that he would make it to 100 years old…he pretty much did.
He always felt that walking every day to get his newspaper and eating onions with every meal would keep him healthy, we laughed about it since he loved his ice-cream and chocolate, but he proved himself right. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
He is predeceased by his brother Stanley and parents Ada and Lou. He is survived by children Jeff of Ojai, California, Andrea of Spring Valley, Leslie DePaolis (Jerry) of Cape Coral, FL, Steven Goodman (Beth) of Jersey City, New Jersey, grandchildren Ariana Goodman (Chris) of Rochester, New York Daniella Francis (Sean) of Cape Coral, Florida, Lexi Goodman of San Francisco, California, and great-granddaughter, Garner Hurwitz of Rochester, New York.
