Harold Glick

Harold accumulated the greatest wealth of all: a large, loving, and devoted family, good health, and enduring independence. He was a beloved father to three daughters, a cherished grandfather to nine, and an adoring great-grandfather to seven who are fortunate to have known and been loved by him.

Harold was born in August 1918 in Manhattan to Jewish immigrant parents from Russia. The fifth of six siblings, Harold spent the first few years of his life on the Lower East Side before the family moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Soon after graduating from City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, the US entered WWII, and Harold enlisted in the Air Force in 1943. Following extensive training in the then-developing field of radar, Captain Glick was stationed in Italy as a radar specialist with 70 men under his command.

Upon returning home, Harold attended the NYU School of Dentistry, earning his DDS degree. Harold then met and married his wife of 40 years, Ruth, and they moved to Teaneck, where they raised their three daughters, Cathy, Judy and Heidi. Harold lived in Teaneck for over 65 years, where he was very involved in political and cultural activities, and practiced family dentistry in New Milford for 40 years.

Harold was a sweet and intellectually curious man who loved to read, travel, and sculpt. His travels took him all over the world. After Ruth’s death, Harold continued to travel and had a vibrant social life with his many close friendships.

Pre-deceased by his wife, Ruth, Harold is survived by children Cathy (Larry Halman), Judy Marcus (Joel), Heidi Starr; grandchildren Rachel Marcus Sales (Rob), Jonah Marcus, Jessica Marcus Seidel (Adam), Loren Halman (Jane), Erin Halman, Shelley Halman, Julian Starr (Melissa), Graham Starr, Perry Starr (Bella); seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harold was profoundly proud of the achievements and milestones of his kids (and kids’ kids and kids’ kids’ kids). To the very end, he was physically active, interested in national and world events and engaged with his loving family.

Graveside service for Harold will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Beth El Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ 07652.
