John was born on January 10, 1943 in Youngstown, Ohio to Matilda Janisky Estok and Andrew Charles Estok. John attended Seminary School in Boston, Massachusetts. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War Conflict. John served a total of 2 years, 6 months of that in the Vietnam War Conflict and was injured in combat. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged. John received the National Defense Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon, American Campaign Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Ribbon, and the Rifle Expert Badge. Upon returning home, he attended Youngstown State University and achieved his engineering degree. He married and began a family with Anne E. Frew (deceased) and went on to have 4 children. He worked as an engineer for Aeroquip, GATX and Packard Electric for several years and then pursued his passion for golf. At Bridgestone Sports USA, he married his passion with his engineering mind and had great success. He went on to retire and sailed the Caribbean and Bahamas, and for 7 years enjoyed being a Captain of the Seas. John’s years after retirement included a lot of travel, golf, and fulfilling dreams of seeing national monuments, and time with family.
John is survived by his wife of 16 years: Barbara Tagle Mason Estok; his four daughters and their families and Barbara's children and their families: Julie Anne Estok Weiss and husband, Ralph David Weiss and their son, Andrew John of Auburn, GA; Major Abbie Anne Estok Rebosky of the Ohio Army National Guard and husband, Ben Rebosky and their children, Blake Julieanne and Brees Benjamin of Cincinnati, OH; Jill Anne Estok Pondillo and husband, James Joseph Pondillo and children, Carter James and Luca John of Greer, SC; Janet Anne Estok and Cody Black of Suwannee, GA; Melanie Mason Fielder and husband, Jeff Fielder of Brooksville, FL and their daughters, Allyson and Brooke Fielder; David Mason and his wife, Sarah and their children, Trent, Rex and Otis of Black Mountain, NC. John is also survived by his sister, Andrea Ekoniak and husband, Don Ekoniak of Struthers, OH and their children, Christine and Gregory.
A Funeral Mass will celebrated at 11:30am, Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Boulevard, Spring Hill, FL 34609. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00pm at Florida National Cemetery, 6504 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.
