Betty, preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ken, passed away peacefully after a short bout of horrific back pain.
Betty was an avid golfer for most of her adult life. She was out on the golf course from her early 30’s until back pain forced her to hang up her clubs at 93! She got her first hole in one in 1965 at the age of 35, and her last of five in 2008 at the age of 82. She also loved playing bridge and played until the age of 95!
BETTY LOVED DOING VOLUNTEER WORK. She was always willing to work for any worthy cause. In Columbus, Ohio she volunteered for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Babe Zaharias Golf Tournament and the Columbus Museum of Art to name a few. Most recently, in Florida, she worked for Hospice and for People Helping People.
Betty is survived by her three children: Lyn Derenski (Dan), Suzie Altenburg (Ted), and Mark Gavin; her grandchildren: Layne Ogden (Kevin), Dax Altenburg (Lisa), and Austin Altenburg (Anna) and her great grandchildren: Everett Ogden (Justice), Drake Ogden, Riggs Altenburg, Colton and Reagan Altenburg.
