Jack Richard Lewis was born January 2, 1931 in Marion, Indiana the son of Webster and Lucille (Himelick) Lewis. He attended school in Jonesboro, IN and then went to Indiana University for two years. Jack joined the U.S. Navy on August 4, 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. For his time in the Navy he was honored with the China Service, Korean, United Nations and Navy Occupation Citations. He was honorably discharged on August 6, 1953. After his time in the service Jack returned to college at Western Michigan University where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. On June 18, 1955 Jack was joined in marriage to Marjorie Frances Rogers in Kalamazoo, MI. Jack started work with Owens Illinois Glass and was located in various cities while in their employment. He retired after 30 years with Owens in Streator, IL and moved to Minong, WI in 1987 where he and Marge operated Kimball Lake Resort for 13 years. After selling the resort in 2000, Jack and Marge moved to Trego, WI. Jack was a member of Lions, the American Legion, VFW and the 40 and8. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada, tinkering with old cars and lawn mowers, and hunting and trapping.
Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marge; four children, Mike (Lori) Lewis of South Padre Island, TX, Lynn (Mark) Fisher of Bloomington, IL, Pat (Sandra) Lewis of Brownsville, TX, Tim (Kim) Lewis of Mahomet, IL; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial time to gather with Jack’s family and friends will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner, WI. Following the time of gathering a committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Wisconsin Military Honors Program.
