Paul was born, raised and educated in Massachusetts (MA) and graduated high school in 1961. Following graduation, he worked in some of the area factories until 1968 when he joined the US Air Force. The majority of his four year tour were served in Germany at Ramstein Air Force Base, working as a medical technician primarily in the hospital emergency room. He was also on helicopter air rescue service and played for the basketball team traveling throughout Europe. While working at the hospital, he met his wife, Chris Staples who was an Air Force Nurse and they were married in December, 1968.
Following his Air Force discharge, Paul attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in New Bedford and graduated in 1971. He and Chris moved to Rochester, MN where he attended the Mayo Clinic School of Anesthesia, graduating with a CRNA degree, and their daughter, Stefanie, was born.
The family moved to Yakima, WA when Paul accepted a position with Physician's Anesthesia Associates providing anesthesia services at both hospitals. In 1987 he accepted a position with Central Washington Cataract and Glaucoma Eye Surgery Center and worked there until he retired in 2004. He loved his work, patients and coworkers. He was extremely passionate with his patients. Those that knew Paul, adored him.
Throughout his life, Paul loved sports, both as a participant and spectator. He enjoyed traveling and sharing laughter with those around him. Upon retirement, he enjoyed volunteering for Hospice in Yakima and traveling south for the winter to soak up the sun and play golf.
He is survived by his wife, Chris Almeida, daughter Stefanie Durand, son-in-law Joe Durand, grandson Jace Durand, brothers Don and David Almeida and several nieces and nephews. A small gathering of immediate family will take place this summer to celebrate his life.
