The beloved son of Robert & Maryellen Strand he was the 5th of 6 kids. They will all tell you he was their parents’ favorite. He grew up running around making mischief with friends and bugging his sisters. An early love of anything with a motor led him to taking things apart just to see how they worked and then figuring out how to put them back together in working order. Even as a kid he was the definition of ‘born to be wild.’ Racing around on bicycles, motorcycles, anything that went fast drew him in. A man of the times he wholeheartedly loved everything about the vibe of the 60’s & 70’s.
As a teenager he grew tired of the rules of the house and struck out on his own to work and make his way. Eric was a man who dedicated himself to working hard. He believed in always doing your best and having fun while doing it. This attitude and ethic led him to befriend people from all over the world throughout his life.
In Alaska, Eric found his happy place. A consummate fisherman he was never happier than when he was on the water with a fishing pole in his hand. Eric was a man who worked hard and played hard and no amount of crummy weather could deter him. Not content with his small smokercraft boat he hand built an incredible aluminum boat worthy of the roughest ocean. Eric built many incredible things throughout his life, his skill and knowledge were truly astounding as there was hardly a thing he couldn’t build or repair.
Eric was known for his upbeat attitude and ability to talk to anyone. He was truly one of the friendliest guys around and generous with anyone needing a hand. In his 20’s with a young family he started his career in the oilfield, first in New Mexico, up to Alaska and finally in Angola, Africa. He treasured his years in the oilfield and the friends he made he considered family for life.
Eric retired while living in eastern Washington and took pride in his beautiful lawn, his shop and all of his toys. You could find him out in his boat, on one of his motorcycles or messing with some project in the shop. He had a ton of hobbies and was amazing at all of them. Many friends and family will continue to cherish the gifts he made for them with his own two hands.
Eric left behind hundreds of family members & friends who will always smile when thinking of him; his humor, his willingness to lend a hand and his knowledge and skill. He lived life on his own terms and was blessed to have many incredible adventures. Blessedly he was able to pass over peacefully having heard from loved ones all over the world and having his wife and two children by his side until his last breath.
Eric was preceded in death by his father, Robert Strand, mother Maryellen, brothers John Robert and Ronald Strand and his beloved niece Stephanie Lowenstein.
He is survived by his wife, Kim and their daughter, Mariah Snow & her son- Skylar Flood and his son, Olaf Strand along with his children Sierra & Mason Strand, his sisters Ardy Cramer, Kristina Thompson and Cheryl Hearne along with nieces Clistia Olsen, Ashley Cramer & nephew Maciah Hearne.
