Dorothy Neal

1921-2012

Dorothy Estelle Ladwig Neal, our dear, much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother left us Sunday, July 8, 2012. Mom was energetic, fun to be with, and had a smile for everyone! She truly brought sunshine everywhere she went, even when sometimes there was none. Born in Hebron, Nebraska and raised in Belleville, Kansas, she had many lasting friends. She was a high school cheerleader all four years, going on to attend business college and working at K State as a secretary. She and our father, Leo, were married June 10, 1942. They had known each other since childhood in Belleville. Dad passed Feb. 12, 2012. The strong family values and memories left to us by both of them will be passed down in our families. Mom loved sports, especially football. She knew the players by name and number as well as some of the refs. Mom was a wonderful cook and made everything from scratch, with dad by her side helping her. Always a perfectionist, everything had to be done beautifully, with love. They raised three children in Long Beach, California where Mom was proud to be a member of the Children’s Home Society. In 1981 she joined PEO Chapter BL in Long Beach, later demitting to Chapter EQ in Spokane, WA. They leave daughter, Jo Anne Bone and husband Terry; son, Michael Neal and wife Wanda; daughter, Deborah Neal; as well as 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren who love them and will forever cherish their memories. A service will be held at a later date in Long Beach, CA.

Leo G. Neal

(Age 89)

Passed away February 12, 2012, in Spokane, WA. Leo was born on February 14, 1922, in Goodland, KS. He was the son of Bertha and Lester Neal. Leo is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy; daughter, JoAnne Bone and husband, Terry; son, Michael C. Neal and wife, Wanda; daughter, Debbie Neal; ten grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Leo was raised in Belleville, KS, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Force in a rescue unit flying over the Hump in India. He graduated from Colorado University, Boulder, CO, in 1950. He was one of four founders of Vetsville on the Colorado Campus; he also was a member of Sigma Nu. Leo retired in 1994 as a financial planner, working with several large brokerage firms during his career. Prior to that, he worked in Aerospace on the Apollo Space Program for MacDonald-Douglas in Long Beach, CA. Leo was a member of the Masons and Shriners. He enjoyed golf and watching football. Leo was extremely devoted to his family and known for his trustworthiness. Leo will be missed dearly by his family. Private family services will be held by his family.
