Born in Spokane on March 20, 1957 to David and Betty Johnston, Cheryl Ann Johnston formed life-long connections throughout her hometown Spokane Valley. She attended Pratt Elementary and Libby Junior High and graduated from Joel E. Ferris High School in 1975. She received a horticulture degree from Spokane Community College, passing on a love for gardening from her dad to her nieces and nephews. She worked for Fireman's Fund Insurance and US WEST before devoting her life to caring for her mom.
After her long-time friend Bernice passed away, Cheryl became a caregiver for her friend's daughter Nancy, who lived in a group home. Surviving Cheryl are her mother Betty Johnston, brother Jerry Johnston, and nieces and nephews including Mathew Johnston (Tori), Malissa Davis (Mike), Tina Brazill (Justin), Melonie Johnston, and all of their children. She is known as an aunt to many of her friends' children. She was preceded in death by her father David Johnston, her brother Dale Johnston, infant brother Steven David Johnston.
Known always to have her camera ready to capture the moment, she saw the true value of those moments spent with friends and family and wanted to savor them for as long as possible. Cheryl was a rare soul, with unparalleled ceaseless compassion that poured into all aspects of her daily life. Whether it was diligently looking after her mother, or finding the most thoughtful card or gift for someone's birthday, she never failed to let the people she loved know she cared about them. She will be greatly missed.
