Audrey was the first child born to Gunda Myhre (Norwegian) and Marcus Holm (Swedish), both immigrants. She graduated from Grant Grade School in 1943, and Lewis and Clark High School in 1947. She graduated from the Salvation Army Officer Training College in 1948 as an ordained minister, graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing 1954, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the University of Denver in 1958, Master of Public Health at the University of California in 1966, and became a Fellow, North American College of Healthcare Executives in 1986.
She worked at the Salvation Army (SA) for 37+ years, managing the SA's Booth Memorial Hospitals in both Spokane and Oakland California, was the hospital administrator at Booth Memorial Medical Center (300 bed unit) in Flushing, New York and Retired Officers' Residence (100+ units) in New Jersey.
Audrey retired in 1993 returning to Spokane to enjoy the Salvation Army, Soroptimist International of Spokane (SIS), Mount Spokane Prime Timers ski club, Daughters of Norway, Lewis and Clark Alumni events, and the Grant Grade School Alumni events. She was licensed in Washington State as a Registered Nurse and worked part time at both Touchmark and Rockwood retirement centers. She volunteered at Hospice of Spokane and the Veteran's Hospital. She was always helping others.
She enjoyed Bible Study, Norwegian class, skiing, hiking, gardening, biking, swimming, reading (English, Norwegian and Swedish), computer work (instrumental in publishing the SIS web site), theater plays ,symphony, played violin, piano, sang in the SA Songsters and played horn in the SA Band. She went on a mission trip to Nigeria. She enjoyed traveling abroad as far as China with her friend Vivian Johnson and domestically with her good friend Jim Caddis.
Audrey attended the Nazarene Church and Salvation Army (Scandinavian and English Corps) growing up and the Salvation Army Church as an adult.
Her family is thankful and grateful that Audrey was able to stay at her home at Rockwood South Hill Retirement Community after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in early September, 2016. With the care that Hospice of Spokane and Sandy Sears of Interim Healthcare gave her, she spent only one night at Hospice House South before being promoted to Glory.
Audrey is sorely missed by her sister Viola Randolph; brother Stanley and wife May; sister-in-law Ann Holm; nephew Marcus and wife Suzanne Holm; good friend Jim Caddis; and many other friends and associates across America.
On February 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. a memorial service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel Corp, 222 E. Indiana Ave., Spokane, WA.
