Roy was born July 13, 1930, to Opal and Guy Womack in Dennis, Oklahoma, between older sister, Virginia, and younger brother, Cliff. The family moved to Bend, Oregon, and then on to Sweet Home, Oregon, since his father, Guy, worked as a foreman at the sawmills. While attending school at Sweet Home High, he met a shy girl named Ruby Taylor and they went on one date. After graduation, Roy enlisted in the Army and served as a communications technician during the Korean War. After military service, he returned to Sweet Home to study the auto body repair trade and welding craft. One day he walked into White’s Café and saw a pretty waitress, who turned out to be Ruby. He began stopping frequently by the café, ordering hot chocolate and talking with Ruby. They were wed on November 21, 1953, and soon started a family of five children: Debra, Jeannie, Randy, Teresa, and Ron. Roy and Ruby were married 68 years.
The family moved to Fortuna, California, where Roy worked as the foreman at Patton Chevrolet Body and Fender shop. He later operated his own auto body shop in Fortuna, working many long hours while Ruby managed the home. Due to his knowledge of auto painting, Roy was offered a job working as a rep for Martin Senior Paint Company, which moved the family to Spokane, Washington, in 1968. In 1979 Roy was offered a teaching position in the auto paint department at Spokane Community College, where he taught until retiring in 1993.
In his lifetime, Roy enjoyed hobbies such as studying the Bible, photography, earning a pilot’s license and flying his Piper Cub plane, reading, and working in his shop. As young parents, Roy and Ruby co-founded Campton Heights Baptist Church in Fortuna, where Roy served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Roy entered into heaven on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the age of 91. He was well-loved by his wife and family and will be dearly missed.
Roy is preceded in death by his mother and father, Opal and Guy Womack, brother, Cliff; and sister, Virginia.
Those surviving Roy are his wife, Ruby; sons, Randy (Carolyn) Womack, and Ron (Thanh) Womack; daughters, Debra (Dennis) Grube, Jeannie Womack (Heinen), Teresa (Scott) Ewing; grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Heinen, Jason (Hope) Ewing, and Ashley Ewing; great-grandchildren Alexis and Craig Heinen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
