Senkler. She grew up on their family farm, learning the value of hard work early as she helped
with daily chores, and she kept this value all her life. Her family watched as the Grand Coulee
Dam was constructed not far from their home and eventually brought them electricity.
She graduated from Hartline High School in 1941 as class salutatorian and later earned her
diploma from Morse School of Beauty Culture. She married Robert Leinwebber in 1943, and
they had four daughters. Bob and Mary farmed in Idaho, later moving to Mesa, WA where they
continued to farm until retiring to Spokane Valley in 1988. Mary moved to Brookdale Canyon
Lakes in Kennewick, WA in 2018 where she found an extended family of caregivers and friends.
Mary was an avid and productive gardener, always canning and providing for winter months.
She grew beautiful flowers which she shared with others. She enjoyed sewing and various
needlework projects and kept her family warm with beautifully knit afghans. Thanksgiving was a
special time of year as the family gathered at Bob and Mary’s home where they enjoyed cooking
and spending time together. She provided for and gave tirelessly to her family, always inquiring
about each one.
Mary is survived by her children: Shirley Leinwebber of Spokane, WA; Janice Leinwebber
(Dennis Bauermeister) of Canby, OR; Cindy Herrman (Paul) of Mesa, WA; five grandchildren,
Caleb Bauermeister (Elizabeth), Nolan Bauermeister, Jason (Asa) Herrman, Sarah Herrman
(Derek Norton), Jenna Spargo (Dylan), and great grandchildren Isabel, Ella, and Henry, as well
as sister Alma Senkler and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her
husband, Bob, daughter, Carol, her parents, and her brothers, Howard, Arthur, Walter and Paul.
Mary passed away peacefully under the care of Chaplaincy House in Kennewick, WA on
September 26, 2023 at the age of 99.
