Jack was born in San Angelo, Texas.Jack Floyd Honeycutt Jr., also known as 'Sonny' and 'Papa' or 'Papa Jack', age 87, of Greenacres, WA entered the kingdom of Heaven peacefully at home on Saturday, May 11th, 2024. He was born in San Angelo, TX on November 19, 1936, to the late Jack Floyd Sr. and Corine Mary (Crocker) Honeycutt. Jack grew up in west Texas, earning money as a child by collecting soda-pop bottles, and later by learning how to do basic engine work on lawnmowers, then on motorcycles (scooters as Papa Jack called them) and cars.
In 1955, Jack met the love of his life, the late Wanda Ilene (Phillips) Honeycutt and they married on December 16th in Odessa, TX. Together they were blessed with two beautiful daughters Leslie Ruth and Dee Lynn.
Jack always said when he grew up, he wanted to be a cowboy like Tom Mix and Gene Autry, but he worked as a bricklayer instead to support his little family. Jack was also a part of constructing numerous buildings in his hometown of Odessa, TX, including MCH, Winwood Mall, OHS and PHS. In his early years, he enjoyed riding and building motorcycles. Wanda would even sew him vests to wear while out on the road.
Years later in 1978, Jack gave his life to Christ and became a humble servant of God. He was a member and helped with the construction of Mission Baptist Church. Jack also taught Sunday school there and was on numerous committees.
Once he retired, Jack would spend countless hours at the hospital leading people to the Lord or just praying over them. He also began wood working out in his shop. One year, he made all his kids and grandkids beautiful furniture sets.
Jack loved his family and always made sure they felt loved and protected. He was our hero and known as the neighborhood Papa. Jack would fix all the kids' bikes when they had flat tires or busted chains. He was the perfect example of what a wonderful Papa was.
In 2006 God sent Jack an angel named Nola whom he married on November 19th in Odessa, TX. Together they built a beautiful life, and he loved her children as if they were his own.
Jack loved sitting on a porch swing on lazy afternoons enjoying all of the outdoors, and especially loved visits with family or friends. Jack’s eyes lit up when he spoke on the phone with his sister, daughter, grandchild, niece or nephew, and his joy and laughter were evident when he visited someone in person. Jack treasured his faith in Jesus and never missed an opportunity to speak of Jesus Christ, and what Christ meant to his life. He continually prayed for everyone in his family and for his friends. He made sure everyone who needed one had a Scofield Bible, His eyes would twinkle just so whenever a Biblical question was asked of him.
His favorite Bible verses were: Job 19:25-26 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God and Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ. His favorite quote was "I never met a man I didn't like," by Will Rogers.
Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife of 18 years: Nola Honeycutt; daughter: Leslie Honeycutt; bonus children: Jimmy and Tina (Hill) Dickson, Jerlene (Dickson) and Keith Cannon, and Miriam (Dickson) and Scott Rogers; Terri Rae Donely Dickson; sister: Judy Sparks and husband Kent; grandchildren: Jessica, Nerisa and husband Jake, Kendra and Nicholas Jack; great-grandchildren: Zoie, Kayli, Donovan, Atreyu, Joe, Jakob, Ashe, Mycal along with all of Nola’s many Grandchildren and Great grandchildren ; Beloved Nephews and Nieces; great friends: Henry Bean, Kathy Lightfoot and Charlie Mann.
