Elsie Marie Dunkle Sheard, age 85, was born on July 27, 1938, in Rockford, Washington to Lloyd and Rosetta Smith Dunkle. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 19, 2024. Elsie attended Lindbergh High School in Valleyford. When she was 18, she met Donald Sheard and they were married on September 28, 1956. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before Don’s passing in 2020.
Elsie was the consummate farmer’s wife. She was a lifetime member of the Mica Grange and Mica Community Club. She had two children, whom she loved dearly. Elsie was involved in her children’s’ activities as a troop leader for both the girl and cub scouts. She also loved hosting the neighborhood kids during the summers as she watched them refresh themselves in the family’s swimming pool. Her favorite pastime was gardening, and she had the largest flower and vegetable gardens in Mica. She loved to nurture the plants and when the growing season was complete, she took great care in canning and preserving her harvest, as well as many trips to Green Bluff for their variety of fresh fruits to can and preserve. She loved crafts, puzzles, Bingo and playing cards. Above all else, Elsie loved being a grandmother - not just to her own grandkids, but to all of the children in her neighborhood. She had a great love that was palpable by those around her.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, her brothers, Gene and Leonard (Mary) Dunkle and her sister, Ella Mae (Kelly) Caldwell. She is survived by her daughter Diane (Lance) Latta and son, DW (Alondra) Sheard of Mica, WA, granddaughters Heather Latta and Emily Sheard, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for May 3rd, 2024 at 11:00 am at Thornhill Valley Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice or the charity of your choice.
