Douglas Paul Petit

Douglas Paul Petit, a beloved husband, educator, business professional, cherished friend and a proud member of the Chinook Tribe, passed away on September 12, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge, accomplishments, and a singular focus on family. He was born on November 27, 1939, in South Bend, Washington, to parents Norris (Chooch) and Wilma Jean Petit. His journey through life touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Doug's early years were marked by a curiosity for the world around him, a trait that would define his life's work. He pursued his higher education at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington, where he not only gained knowledge but also forged lifelong connections. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Barbara, and they embarked on a journey together that spanned decades.

After completing his education, Doug and Barbara dedicated themselves to the noble profession of teaching. Doug's passion for science and biology led him to East Valley High School in Moxee, Washington, where he inspired countless young minds to explore the wonders of the natural world. His classroom was a place of enlightenment, where he instilled a love for discovery and a commitment to understanding the intricacies of life in his students.

Beyond his role as an educator, Doug was a pillar of strength and support for his family and friends. Doug's love for nature extended into his personal life, as he enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, hiking, or working on his families timber properties.

After his years of teaching at East Valley High School, Doug transitioned into a successful career with the pharmaceutical giant Abbott Laboratories. He began as a dedicated sales representative, where his passion for science and his ability to connect with people served him well. Later, he ascended to upper management, where he continued to make a significant impact in the pharmaceutical industry.

Doug was preceded in death by his brother James. Doug was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, who passed away in December of 2018. Though they are now reunited in an eternal embrace, their memory will forever live on.

Doug is survived by his younger brother Norris (Mugs), his only son Donald, daughter-in-law Karen, grandchildren Justin, Mitch, and Hailey, and three great-grandchildren. He cherished his family and was an active presence in their lives.

A memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will be held on October 21 in Raymond, WA. at the Eagles Club at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to your local hospice provider.

In the face of this profound loss, we will remember that Doug’s legacy will continue to shine through the knowledge he imparted, the lives he touched, and the experiences he shared. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world he held so dear, and may his family find comfort in the memories they shared with him.
