Douglas Carl DeAndre, 88 years, 8 months and 13 days, of Spokane Valley passed away in his home peacefully on October 27, 2021. Doug was born on Valentine Day 1933 in Kellogg, Idaho to Carmen DeAndre of Harrison, ID and Charlotte Nevin DeAndre of St. Maries, ID. He was the grandson of Italian, Swiss and Scottish immigrants.
Doug graduated from Kellogg High School, where he was a 4-sport letterman and held a longtime record in hurdles. He attended Montana State College before being drafted into the Army and served in Korea, where he was a highspeed radio operator. When honorably discharged, he enrolled at Kinman Business University graduating with a degree in accounting and accepted a position as a Field auditor for North Pacific Grain Growers where he worked until the Spokane Office closed. At that time, he accepted a position with H. Henry Higgins family of Bowling centers and restaurants in Spokane and the Tri-Cities. When he “retired” he had a tax practice that was a perfect fit, working only the 4 months of tax season.
Doug and Patricia Bennett were married in 1959 and have 5 children together. He was a dedicated and hands-on father to his children, working and playing together, building our office, rebuilding our lake place and enjoying golf. All of his life he did love jazz and continued to play drums on weekends to stay in touch, usually with trios at a place called “Dr. John’s Jazz Emporium” where he was known for his “tasty brushes”.
Then in 1980 Doug made a commitment to Jesus. His faith never wavered and Doug served The Lord without argument the rest of his life.
Doug is survived by his wife, Pat and children Kit (Janet), Dave (Jeanette) of Shelton, WA, Megan Wolcott (Jeff), Rich (April), Otis Orchards and Vince (Amy). 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles, and nephew, Charlie.
A memorial is planned for this summer at the family fifth generation lake cabin.
