Will was born in Teaneck, NJ, and raised in Moonachie, NJ, before his family settled in Pompton Plains, NJ when he was 11.
Growing up, Will was known as a skilled athlete. He excelled in football, where he was selected as an all-state player, track and field, and was even considered an all-star baseball player.
In college at Sacred Heart University, Will discovered his love of rugby. From there he was signed onto the National USA rugby league team, the USA Tomahawks.
In 2011, Will then found his calling helping others. He became a certified firefighter and became a proud member of Pompton Plains Engine Company #1. After the fire academy, he felt like he needed to do even more. He became a certified Emergency Medical Technician and volunteered for Pequannock Township First Aid Squad. While working as a professional paid firefighter in Anne Arundel County, MD, he earned a BA of nursing degree. He returned home to New Jersey and has held many successful roles in his professional career at Atlantic Health, even fighting the pandemic on the frontlines.
Will, a devoted father of two sons, Cayden and Cole, a daughter, Chelsea, and G3Pop to his granddaughter, Everleigh. In addition to his children, Will is survived by his loving wife Jessica, father Bill, brother Frank, sister Justine, and many other family members and close friends. He was predeceased by his mother Patricia and Grandfather William.
Will was promoted to Lieutenant at the Byram Township Fire Department’s meeting on Thursday, Oct. 27; he would be in charge of Engine 4 and the Lee Hill Firehouse.
Will was a person who touched the lives of everyone he met. He will always be remembered for going out of his way for everyone, whether a loved one or a stranger. He will forever be remembered as an “indestructible ox” and a “real-life superman.”
Will left this world a better place than he found it and will be forever missed.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted under Goble Funeral Home 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. The family had a private viewing on Sat. Oct. 29th and the cremation was held privately.
Saturday, November 5th a private Fireman's parade dedicated to the memory of Will Garcia will be departing from Goble Funeral Home at 12. It will pass Will's home on 5 Stonehedge and his firehouse Byram Fire Company Lee Hill. The parade route will end at the main firehouse 225 US-206 where the final call will be made at 1 PM. A Celebration of life will follow immediately afterwards.
