Salvatore G Ferraro

Salvatore (Sal) Ferraro (84) of Sparta, NJ passed on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 surrounded by his family. Sal was born in Jersey City, NJ, raised his family in Paramus, and eventually settled in Sparta.

Sal is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Erminia. Together, they raised four loving children, JoAnn Gregoli and her children, Sal and his wife Lori, Jerry and his wife Chrissy, and Doug and his husband John. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren who he absolutely adored: Melissa, Jessica, Cassandra, Joshua, Jason, Jordan, Nicholas, Lily, Alexandra, and Casey, along with 9 great-grandchildren.

Sal grew up in Jersey City, NJ. He and his future wife Erma met while still in high school. Soon after high school, then they married, and he joined the Air Force National Guard where he served for nearly eight years. He also worked at as an engineer at Sandvik Engineering, where he played a vital role in designing and installing the first moving sidewalk in North America at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport in Texas. Later he attended William Paterson College, earning a degree in History.

Besides being a devoted father who loved being a scout leader and participating in soap box derbies with his sons, Salvatore was a renaissance man, who loved art and history. He was a talented artist and an amazing writer. He loved to travel the world with the love of his life. He loved to tell stories and was the best joke teller. He was the kindest and most gentle human who simply loved his wife and family to the end. He was affectionately known as Sally, who came from a huge Italian family and embraced his heritage. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, August 27, 2021 at Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church, 294 South Sparta Avenue in Sparta with an entombment immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
