Marie Hickey

Sparta, NJ- Marie F. Hickey nee (Girlando) peacefully passed away at her residence on November 7, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was 88. Marie was born in Newark, NJ to Joseph and Christina nee (Fraser) Girlando. Marie has resided in Sparta since 2014 when her beloved husband of 64 years, Norman Hickey passed away. They lived in Summit, NJ. For many years, Marie was an event planner and fundraiser for United Cerebral Palsy, and St. Ann’s School in Newark. She served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Rose of Lima Church in Short Hills, NJ, and was an active member of the Garden Club in Short Hills. She was devoted to her family, especially her granddaughters. Marie never missed a performance, game or show of any of her granddaughters. Marie is predeceased by a daughter, Ellen Topar in 2017, and her husband Norman in 2014. Surviving her is a daughter, Suzanne Galvin of Sparta. Three Granddaughters, Christina Galvin of Sparta, Jamie Spampinato of Ewing. Rosemary Topar and her husband Daniel DeJager of Hopatcong, NJ, a son in law, Kevin Topar and a brother Joseph Girlando. Family and friends are invited Sunday 3~7 pm to Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street Sparta, NJ 07871. A Monday 11am Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Sparta followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
