Born in Manhattan, NY in 1932 and adopted at age 5, her formative years were spent in foster care. Fortunately Dorothy was adopted by a loving couple, Ethel and John Baltz, and raised in Roselle NJ, graduating from Abraham Clark High School.
After high school, Dorothy went on to and graduated from the School of Cosmetology in Elizabeth NJ. She had a very successful career in the field and her passion for hair styling continued well into her 80s, giving haircuts to her elderly neighbors and friends.
Dorothy met Donald Howard Haga, a Virginian born and raised, at a dance at Fort Dix Army Base in the early 50’s. He was in the Air Force and she was with a girlfriend who was anxious to set them up on a blind date. They were married in 1956.
During Dorothy and Don’s 56 years together, they raised four daughters and watched their family flourish, adding a granddaughter, three grandsons and seven great grandchildren. She lost Don in 2012.
Between haircuts, permanent waves and working at L’Oreal in Clark NJ, Dottie found the time to fulfill her love of crafting, particularly Christmas ornaments. With her “DDH” signature and year on the back of each one, these pieces of her will forever be treasured by our family.
What Dottie loved even more than crafting, were her grandkids. Every summer “Gran and Pa” would have a sleepover for all, and the Winfield Park Carnival was an annual destination for rides, food, and fun.
We are heartbroken to say goodbye to our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, this beautiful soul. But, it is her time, and she has joined Don once more for the greatest reunion they have ever known.
