Dick was born September 3, 1950 in Miami, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, June Larssen Otte; two sons, Benjamin Otte, wife Anne of Natick, MA, and Jared Otte and wife Shannon of Framingham, MA; four grandchildren, Colby, Bayla, Micah, and Tristan; and two brothers, Timothy Otte of Acworth, GA and Earl Otte of Cottage Grove, MN.
Dick grew up in Framingham, MA with his parents (Billy and Rosella) and two younger brothers (Tim and Earl). Dick attended Framingham South High School and Springfield College. Immediately after graduating from Springfield College, Dick enlisted with the Navy Reserve. Later that year, Dick began teaching 5th grade in Brockton, MA. Dick coached the Brockton High School girls volleyball team and worked with the Brockton boys gymnastics program.
Dick spent the summers of his youth at Pilgrim Day Camp (“PDC”) in Framingham, MA, where he would later meet his wife, June, and become the Camp Director. Dick served as the Director at PDC every summer until 1980 and his sons would continue his legacy as campers and staff at PDC until 2007. Dick’s four grandchildren continue to attend PDC every summer.
In 1981, Dick accepted a teaching assignment for Raytheon Company in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and moved there with June and their 2 year old son, Ben. When they returned to the States in 1984, Dick began his career in Human Resources with Raytheon Company in Wayland, MA and started working on his MBA at Nichols College. In 1985, while living in Franklin, MA, Dick and June welcomed their second son, Jared. The Otte Family moved to Holliston in 1986. Dick was a very active member in the Holliston community, attending First Congregational Church and coaching numerous youth sports teams that his boys played on. In 1996, Dick and his family returned to Jeddah on a 4 year assignment as the Human Resources Manager for Raytheon Middle East Systems Co. In 2000, the family returned to Massachusetts where Dick continued his career in Raytheon’s Marlboro location. In 2013, after 32 years of service, Dick retired from Raytheon in the role of Director of Human Resources for Raytheon’s Network Centric Systems.
Dick and June moved to St James, North Carolina in 2015 where he was an avid golfer and treasured the community and friends that he made. In his retirement, Dick volunteered with the Kiwanis Club, working with the Early College Program where he mentored high schoolers, coordinated career and interview days, and organized a program with local woodworkers to provide desks to students in the local Brunswick County communities.
Dick adored his wife, June, throughout their 51 year marriage during which they travelled all over the world. Dick loved spending time with his sons, their wives, and his grandchildren. Seeing his sons as husbands and fathers over recent years brought him so much joy. He fiercely loved his grandchildren and treasured watching them grow into sweet and fun-loving little people. Dick was always seen out walking his beloved dog Maggie and more recently, Frankie. Dick was a member of St Peter Lutheran Church in Southport.
June, Benjamin, and Jared are so grateful to the family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers, who, with their compassion, love, and support, brought joyful moments to Dick to the very end of his journey.
