Paul (also known by his home community as Tommy) served two tours in the U.S. Army and loved his country. He retired from E.I. Dupont after thirty three years of service. Paul enjoyed playing and coaching baseball and football and also was an umpire. He also enjoyed bowling. Later in years he enjoyed drawing and became a talented artist.
He was born in Conway, S.C. on March 12th 1942 and was the son the late Alice Rogers Rich and James B. Richardson both of S.C. He was also the step-son of the late Johnny F. Rich of S.C. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty four years, Lois H. Richardson, three sisters (all who passed before his birth) and two brothers, James D. Richardson and William H. Richardson, a son Marvin (Boy) Thigpen, grandson Adam Thigpen, granddaughter, Joy Susanne Thigpen McKenney; and a great-grandson, Louis.
He leaves behind a loving family that he will meet in heaven when they make the trip behind him. They are daughters, Paula Richardson Knox and husband Clint, Judy Thigpen Hughes and husband Charles; sons, Reverend Rory Thigpen and wife Susie, Ned Thigpen and wife Lisa, Mark Karnes and David Karnes and wife Stephanie; grandchildren, Daniel, Hannah, Caleb, Jonathan, Benjamin, Karleigh, Hayden, Kensley, Anna, Colby, Mason and Stacy; great-grandchildren, Austin, Mackenzie, Seth, Chelsea and Zac, great great grandchildren, Liam, Jadea, Asher Tate and sisters in-law, Dolly J. Richardson, Barbara Jenkins, Jennie Hill-Smith, and Hilda Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday March 20, 2022 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Reverend Anthony Clemmons and Reverend Rory Thigpen officiating. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Dr., Wilmington.
Pallbearers will be Reverend Rory Thigpen, Ned Thigpen, Mark Karnes, David Karnes, Clint Knox, and Ronald Brown.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening March 19, 2022 from six o’clock until eight o’clock at Peacock-Newnam and White Funeral Service, 1411 N. Howe Street, Southport.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare for the excellent care given to Mr. Richardson during his time of illness.
