Lou Ann was born to the late Herschel and Carolyn McKinley on November 24, 1954 and grew up along with her older brothers Robert and William in Kentucky, Florida, and Maryland.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Paul Hadlock; brothers, Robert McKinley and William McKinley.
Survived by her three daughters; Karin Cushman and husband Jason, Jessica Hadlock and Meghan Hadlock; grandchildren, McKinley, Addison, and Drew Cushman.
Lou Ann married Paul in 1974 and together they raised their family in Stafford, Virginia where Lou Ann was an active leader in the community and dedicated swim coach for over 20 years. Lou Ann was a wonderful “Grammy” to her three “most perfect” grandchildren McKinley, Addison, and Drew Cushman. After retiring to St. James in Southport, Lou Ann became an avid and very talented potter and would make beautiful creations for family, friends, and charities. She shared her love of clay by teaching pottery to aspiring artists at the local community college. Lou Ann also continued to channel her passion for swimming into coaching with the local Marlins swim team, giving lessons, and influencing many young swimmers. Lou Ann could often be seen at the beach or St. James pools playing in the water with her grandchildren who, as she would tell anyone who asked, gave her the greatest joy. Larger than life, Lou Ann was known for her loud and boisterous personality and will be forever missed but never forgotten by her family, life-long friends, and thousands of young athletes that she mentored over the years.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 PM on October 20, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, North Carolina.
