Kurt was born December 26, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Albert and Mary Fier Schumacher. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University with a BS in Secondary Education. Kurt played in the NFL for five years. He was the 12th overall draft pick by the New Orleans Saints in 1975, and played with them for three years. He then went on to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two years. After leaving the NFL, he worked for various incentive and motivational companies for 34 years before opening his own company for six years. He then closed up shop and retired to spend time on the golf course with the love of his life, traveling to various golf destinations.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie; a son, Tim Schumacher and wife Sara of Highlands Ranch, CO; a daughter, Betsy Liston and husband Sonny of Stafford, VA; five grandchildren, Nathan, Grace, Kyle, Andrew, and Paige; brother-in-laws, Randy Krul and wife Kathy of St. Louis, MO and Bob Krul and wife Terri of Clifton Park, NY; and his two loving Greyhounds, Thea and Chase. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Member's Club in St. James.
