James (Jim) was born in Lebanon, to Joseph J. and Mary Lance Uffner on July 13, 1928. He was the oldest of 11 children. He went to school at St. Mary’s Catholic School. He served as a navigator in the Air Force after WWII. He was stationed in Germany, where he met and married his first wife, Elizabeth. He worked as an electrician with the IBEW Local 143 of Harrisburg, Pa for many years. He married Susan Andrade on July 5, 2016.
Jim was involved with the Boy Scouts as a leader. He was active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport and also Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed canoeing, bike riding, gardening, crossword puzzles. He was a talented woodworker and craftsman. He looked forward to meeting his friends at the coffee shop every morning.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth to whom he was married to for 51 years; brothers,
Daniel, Thomas, Carl, Eugene, Joseph; and sisters, Margaret Roof and Bernadette Saylor.
Jim survived by his wife Susan; children, Robert Uffner, husband of Jackie, Louise Kipp, wife of George, and Susan Metzger, wife of Richard, James J. Uffner Jr., fiancée Marie Smith; stepdaughters, Danielle Faircloth, Whitney Oden; brother, Francis Uffner; sisters, Gertrude Nye, Joan Hicks; grandchildren, Seth Uffner, Mark Uffner, Eric Kipp, Jason Kipp, Elizabeth Erickson, Dillon Uffner, Anneliese Uffner; great grandchildren, Melody Uffner, James Uffner, Brooke Uffner, Leah Uffner, Kalei Kipp, Deanna Kipp, Gwen Kipp, Madison Kipp, Ema Kipp, Jackson Kipp, Luke Erickson, Clark Uffner; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held privately at the discretion of the family.
