Dennis Michael Hickey was born on Sep. 24, 1945 in Scottdale, PA and passed away on February 1st of 2020. Dennis is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Lykins and two children by marriage, Jacqueline Howell Franks (Adam) and Jessalyn Pedone (Matt) and five granddaughters, Jocelyn, Regan, Riley, Emma and Olivia, sister Patricia Hickey Fretts and brother Jim Hickey. Dennis is preceded in death by parents and his brother, Leo Hickey.
Service was a familiar theme in Dennis’ life - as a sailor in the Navy, youth director, pastor, missionary to the Seminole tribe, church-starter, and counselor - working with at-risk children. Within his life, this service has led him to live in 16 states, but he had never felt more at home than when he and his wife Pat married in 2007 and they moved to Southport, NC from Cary. They have taught jewelry classes at the BSRI Senior Center, Town of Southport, and Leland Art Council and have made many wonderful connections and friendships throughout the community. Dennis had been an active member of Trinity UMC - Southport where he had taught Sunday school, served on the Missions Committee and worked with efforts to provide housing for the homeless.
A celebration of his life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Friday, February 7th at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the service in Murrow Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trinity UMC, Homeless Missions, 209 E Nash St, Southport, NC 28461 in order to continue their efforts to build homeless housing in the Southport area.
