November 2, 1937 – May 17, 2022
Raised as the youngest of three children in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Tony attended Meyers High School and the Mercersburg Academy before earning an engineering degree from Penn State University. He was later graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He was married to Mary P. Sellars, originally of Co. Cork Ireland, in 1965 and together they raised two sons.
Tony was an engineer, a businessman, a loyal husband, a proud father and even prouder grandfather, and a dear friend to many. He was a faithful Penn State Football fan. He loved ice cream and apple pie but didn’t particularly care for kale despite his family’s encouragement. He was partial to American cars and Timex watches. Not surprisingly, he had a lot of tools. He often spent his evenings on the deck, watching pelicans and listening to the ocean with a glass of Scotch as the sun went down.
He lived his life on his own terms and rarely suffered fools. He passed away the way he lived and where he wanted to be, surrounded by his family and within earshot of the sound of the surf crashing on the beach. He will be missed by many, and not soon forgotten.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his sons G. Lester Thomas (Jody) and Christopher Thomas (Jennifer), and three grandchildren (Georgia, Charlie and Finley).
The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport.
