Michael W. D'Angelo

On the evening of 3/10/22 Michael W. D’Angelo, 92, left the loving embrace of his soul mate and wife of 68 years, Constance A. (Getman) D’Angelo. As he entered into God’s kingdom, Mickey was reunited with his beloved parents, Michele and Carmella (Landretta) D’Angelo as well as his siblings, Andrew, Rose, Mary, Alvita, John, and Pasco.

A lifelong Southington resident, Mickey was born at the onset of the Great Depression. He was thrifty, eating his children’s leftovers before making a plate for himself, but generous with his love, time, and money. He was the one you called if you were in trouble or needed help. He’d be by your side, no questions asked. He loved his family with all his heart, dancing, traveling the world, picking up his grandchildren while offering sage advice-don’t be a “cuckoohead” and sharing cookies, making pizza and pepper biscuits, gardening, canning tomatoes and peaches, traveling the world, and sharing Crown Royal with his friends.

Mickey served his country as a MP during the Korean War and came back after two years to marry his sweetheart, the girl who passed by on the sidewalk saying hello to everyone but him. Connie turned out to be his one and only true love and she will miss him dearly.

Left to carry on Mickey’s legacy of kindness are his children and their spouses, Michael & Debbie D’Angelo, Mark & Karen D’Angelo, Matthew & Cheryl D’Angelo, all residing in Southington, and Carmella & Gary Kowalewski of Middlefield. His ten grandchildren lit up his enormous smile and will remember him fondly as Bumpa. They are Michael John & Jillian, Christopher & Kerry, Nicole & Joseph, Rachael, Daniel & Patricia, Alexander & Amanda, Michele, Jacob, Nathan & Rachel, & Mitchell. He also adored his seven great grandchildren, Juliana, Kira, Francesca, Antonia, Joseph, Christopher, & Dorothy. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much. His devoted caregiver of more than two years, Kofi Acheampong, will never be forgotten for the love and service he provided for daddy and mommy, truly an angel sent from heaven.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 10:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.
