Margaret “Midge” DellaVecchia Farina, 78, of Southington, passed away at home on June 24, 2021 after battling ALS. Margaret (Midge to many friends), was born on April 3, 1943 to the late Frank and Mary DellaVecchia. She was a lifelong resident of Southington. Before starting her family, Midge worked in retail at Riccio’s clothing store with her sister-in-law Ruth Riccio. She later worked at Susan’s Health Food store, and in office administration and sales at Manpower and UTC/Carrier. Midge was active in the community as a member of the Southington Junior Women’s Club and served as its President. After retirement, she volunteered at the Southington Community Services Food Pantry and the Holiday Food Basket program. Midge was very active at the Barnes Museum as a greeter, docent, and served as the Treasurer of the Friends of the Barnes Museum. She enjoyed gardening, home decorating, and traveling with her husband Robert to Maine, Italy, South Carolina, Florida, and Colorado to see family. She enjoyed many a holiday at the Connecticut shore in Westbrook with her family.
She is survived by her husband Robert Farina; three children Mary (Michael) Baker of Southington, John (Sharon) England of Arvada, Colorado, and Kate (David) Danforth of Clinton; stepchildren Patty (Alan) O’Neill and Kevin Farina of Southington; and eight grandchildren Evan (Kayla) Baker, Daniel Baker and fiancé Jill Keddy, Mitchell Baker; Jack Canning; Matthias and Arabella England; and Jason and Alex O’Neill. She leaves behind her cherished sisters Filomena Schwartz and Dolores (Richard) Daly and many nieces and nephews. Midge was predeceased by her first husband John F. England, Sr. and second husband Robert C. Doolan.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street, Southington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington at 12 p.m. followed by a burial at St. Thomas Cemetery.
