John L. Sherry Jr.

John ‘Jack’ L. Sherry Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home, with family by his side the evening of February 8, 2021. Jack was born April 28, 1931 to John L. Sherry, Sr. and Charlotte ‘Ted’ Sherry in Jersey City NJ. He was the eldest of five siblings, James L., (deceased), Jeanne L. Pattman, Judy L. Bartlett and Janice L. Sherry.

Jack met his wife of 68 years, Hope Burt Sherry, at St. Luke’s High School in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. They married in 1952 after he had graduated from Villanova University and enlisted in the US Army to attend Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA. Upon discharge from the service in 1954, he joined the IBM Corporation and had 33 years of service with the company when he retired in 1987.

Hope and Jack raised six children; John ‘Jay’ L. Sherry III, Christopher David, Timothy Patrick, Mary Elise, Susan Hope and Gregory Joseph.

Jay and his wife, Kathy (deceased), née Powers, gave them four grandchildren, Jacqueline, Brennan, Meghan, and Ben. Chris and his wife, Janet, née Cincotta, gave them three grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, and Elizabeth. (Grandson Mike and his wife Machael, née Pelosi, gave them their first great grandchild, Jack). Tim and his wife, Cathy, née Smith, gave them three grandchildren, Carolyn, Matthew, and Amanda. Elise and her husband, David Sowa, gave them four grandchildren, Emily, Timothy, Stephanie, and Jocelyn (deceased). Susan and her husband, Scott Coapman, gave them three grandchildren, Kyle, Dean, and Ross. Greg and his wife Stephany, née Futch, have three children, Philip, Sarah, and Joseph.

There are currently nine great-grandchildren: Jack Sherry, Maxwell Leavitt, Oliver Sherry, Callan Arras, Neil Shires, Mary Jones White, Logan Sherry, Kate Cody, and Campbell Arras. Four additional great-grandchildren will also join our family in the coming months.

Jack and Hope attended Mary Our Queen Catholic Church in Plantsville, CT.

Jack would ask all to remember the wonderful Sherry ‘clan’ reunions, the various games and contests he enjoyed so very much on those occasions, and the following quotations:

There will be a private funeral Mass held at Mary Our Queen Church, Plantsville. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N.
