I will always remember that John came to our home after basic training.  I will also remember when I got married that John was there in full dress uniform which made my day.  I remember the closeness and the wonderful times we have had as a family.
John is truly smiling down from heaven upon all us.  In his short lived time since his illness, John did not dwell about his illness but instead made each day count.  John was a devoted husband and son.  I feel truly blessed during the past few years that I was able to be a small part in his life and enjoy the family celebrations.  I will miss him.

John was a wonderful,kind, and strong man. I admired the way he handled himself around others while dealing with and talking about his illness. He is someone that I will remember,admire, and greatly miss.

It is hard to believe that just this past August we were all laughing and joking on the deck of my sisters house during a family party. We all sat and talked about politics and life in general and really just had a great time. That will be the lasting memory I will have of my mother's cousin.

The skies above just got a bit brighter....

I feel so blessed to have met John and spent the times I have with him over the last few years.  He was truly a wonderful man.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Love Cheryl

John had a way of bringing new life to everyone and everything he encountered.  We'll never forget admiring his gorgious gardens that he spent hours everyday working on.  We admired them so much that we decided to play a joke on him and place a black lifeless plant in his mulch pile one afternoon.  Well as usual, the joke was on us, because John took that dead weed and planted it in the fall.  

That next spring he took me by the hand and led me to a beautiful butterfly bush full of purple blossoms as he laughed hysterically.  That bush was our joke, just a few seasons before.  I will always remember that because John brought new life to everything.  He made us laugh so hard we would cry, John had an amazing gift of appreciating even the smallest things in life.

There is a song that came out right around the time that John was diagnosed called "Live like you were dying."  I remember thinking of him every time I heard it play - not because of his diagnosis - but because we saw John live everyday like it was his last, long before the cancer.  

John, you have touched so many lives - and you will live on in our hearts and in our prayers forever.

We will always have wonderful, happpy memories of John and Janet's visit to our home. They would always bring us flowers from their garden.   One of our  fondest memories are when we would visit John and Janet's home the week of Christmas.  Their home is always very warm and welcoming and our children loved all the decorations.  

John was very special to my mom Gerry and I know he will be missed by all.  We can all learn from John's positive spirit and energy throughout his illness.  If you were to meet him, you would have never known his daily struggles.  He truly enjoyed life and made each day count.  We are so blessed to have known John and be part of his life.

Aunt Janet,

I am so sorry to hear about John. I didn't get the chance to know him that well, but I remember him as a wonderful and kind man who loved you so much.  I do think of you often, please know that my thoughts are with you now and always.
