Jeanne (Falcetta) Schumann, 79, of Rocky Hill and formerly of Southington, passed away on July 17, 2023 just three days shy of her 80th birthday. Her loving husband Bill and son Reade were by her side. Jeanne was born in New Britain on July 20, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Amerigo and Jennie (Belli) Falcetta. Jeanne graduated from Southington High School in 1961, St. Joseph’s College in Maryland with a B.A. in Science in 1965, and also received her Master’s in Education and Guidance from Central Connecticut State University in 1968. She spent most of her career working in Southington schools as a science teacher at the high school as well as in the alternative program, R.O.P.E. She finished her thirty six years in the school system as a guidance counselor at Kennedy and Depaolo Jr. High schools. She was adored by her students and colleagues alike. Jeanne received the generous gift of life through a kidney transplant in 2002 which allowed her to enjoy her retirement years travelling the world, skiing, hiking and sailing with her family. Her favorite travel destinations being the Caribbean, Australia, BVI, Anegada, Colorado and Lake Champlain. In paying back her gift, she was an active volunteer for Donate Life and read to the blind on Cris Radio. Jeanne is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bill, whose life was changed for the best over these beautiful and interesting years. She is also survived by her son, Reade and his fiancé, Joy Walsh, her granddaughter Courtney and grandson Casey who was in the room at six weeks old when she woke up from her transplant. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Friedland and brother in law Bob Friedland of Sunapee, NH, and family, her sister-in-law Gail Uccello, brother in law Douglas Schumann and nephews, nieces and her many friends with whom she shared breakfast, wine and good times. She was predeceased by her son Brent, who died in 1974 from congenital heart disease at the age of 4. “We love you Jeanne/Mom/Grammy and enjoyed sharing our lives with you.” A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM in The Church of St. Dominic, 1050 Flanders Rd, Southington. Burial will follow St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make contributions to Donate Life.
